According to a study published by The Lancet, it has been estimated that lower back pain affects around 540 million people across the globe. It has become the main cause of disability around the world.
Like any other part of the body, back comprises of a complex structure of bones, muscles, joints and ligaments. Back Pain is caused by inability of the body to cope up with the stress it goes through. Stress doesn’t account only for physical exaggeration caused by several activities but for emotional burden caused by anxiety, tension etc. leading to muscular tension.
Usually, people opt for bed rest and home remedies for back pain, but chiropractor provides an alternative option to medicines and surgeries for back pain.
Chiropractors detect the root of the pain instead of just making it with medicines. They understand the functioning of your nervous system, helping to identify the root cause of the back pain. Spinal manipulation or hands-on adjustment of the spine is the core of prognosis carried out by a chiropractor. It helps to improve the mobility of the spine, lower back, neck, and pelvis, and provides relief from muscle tightness, causing pain or tingling or numbness in back.
The effectiveness and safety of chiropractic prognosis have been scientifically proved and reviewed by experts all over the world. A recent study published in JAMA Network Open focused on the U.S army, states that low back pain is one of the major issues leading to disability in the US army. It has been found that, using spine adjustment with conventional medicines, has provided better results than just using conventional medical treatment.
People are pretty skeptical as the prognosis involves cracking of the bones. But visiting a chiropractor won’t be a lot different from visiting any other doctor. The chiropractor will collect a lot of information about the back pain for the prognosis. How it began, what all gets affected when you perform various activities, the severity of the pain and any other diseases, injuries or symptoms that you might have.
If you have X-rays, MRIs and other reports, then they’ll also be assessed. After the assessment, there will be discussion about how the prognosis will take place and the targeted goals.
It depends on the severity of your back pain and the number of adjustment need. Healing via chiropractic is a gradual process. Treatment might take several weeks. Initially, there may be 2-3 sessions a week, which may reduce to once session a week, depending on the set goal of healing.
